Police: Accused Ala. Bank Robber Nabbed In Vegas

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A man accused of robbing a Mobile County bank at gunpoint has been captured in Las Vegas where police said he was gambling with the stolen loot.

Mobile Police spokeswoman Nancy Johnson said federal marshals
arrested Ward Robert Lynde, 45, at the MGM Grande on the famed Las
Vegas strip.

"The marshals surprised him at his hotel door," Johnson said Friday.

According to court documents, $11,000 was taken in the robbery
Wednesday at Bay Bank in Theodore, near Mobile.

Lynde, on parole for first-degree robbery and probation for felony DUI, was charged with first-degree robbery in the bank holdup, police said.

According to the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles, Lynde was
released on parole in September 2007.

Lynde's mother, Ernie Faye Keevan, said she had not seen her son
since Wednesday morning before the bank robbery.

"I don't know anything about it," she told the Press-Register in Mobile. "I just saw it on the news."

Special Agent Angela Tobon, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Mobile,
said the robbery was the 19th at a bank or credit union in Mobile or Baldwin counties this year, compared to 12 for the same period a
year ago.
