Assemblywoman Charged in Stabbing

LAS VEGAS (AP) - State Assemblywoman Frances Allen faces a felony charge of stabbing her new husband in the arm with a steak
knife and then telling him to call his mother after he asked for help with the wound, according to a police report.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department report says the Republican assemblywoman and her husband of seven weeks, Paul
Maineri, got into an argument over the weekend at their home and Maineri was stabbed in the left forearm.

Maineri drove himself to a hospital, where his wound wsa closed with three stitches. Allen told police Maineri cut himself, and when Maineri realized Allen faced arrest he tried to say the same thing, the report adds.

A Metro spokesman said Allen was booked late Saturday for felony
battery with a deadly weapon - the steak knife - and also for misdemeanor battery for scratching Maineri on the forehead with her
wedding ring when she pushed him. She posted bail on Sunday and was released.

Allen didn't immediately return a call to her home seeking comment.
