Interior Secretary OKs $79 Million In Nevada Conservation Projects

Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne has signed off on nearly $79 million in funding for conservation, improvement and recreation projects in Nevada.

The money comes from the sale of federal lands in the Las Vegas
valley.

It will benefit 49 different projects in the state.

Since its inception in 1998, the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act has generated more than $3 billion in revenues for
use in Nevada.

Some 85 percent has been invested in conservation, restoration
and recreation projects, 10 percent has gone to the Southern Nevada
Water Authority and 5 percent has gone to Nevada's general
education fund.
