A federal appeals court is reviewing the six-year prison sentence former Clark County Commissioner Lance Malone got for funneling bribes to former colleagues.
The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco denied a request by federal prosecutors to dismiss Malone's appeal, but also gave prosecutors until next Thursday to submit a response.
Malone, three other former commission members and former strip club owner Michael Galardi are each serving time in federal prison for their roles in a political corruption scandal dubbed "Operation G-Sting."
Malone's lawyer contends that U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks wrongly calculated Malone's sentence by tallying as bribes money that Galardi paid to Malone as a lobbyist.
