School Fire in Downtown Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A fire at a downtown school undergoing renovation is under control.

Las Vegas fire spokesman Tim Szymanski says a portion of the roof at the historic Fifth Street School is still smoldering "but there are no flames, it's under control."

Sixty-five firefighters and more than a half-dozen fire trucks were called to the scene at about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The school has been undergoing massive renovations and is not currently in operation.

Police temporarily closed Las Vegas Boulevard and 4th Street between Bonneville Avenue and Bridger Avenue.
