Las Vegas Officials Consider Giving Themselves A Raise

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and City Council members are due to vote today (Tuesday) on a pay raise measure that would more than double the mayor's salary.

If approved, the new pay scale would go into effect after the next round of elections.

The mayor would make more than $120,000 a year, and council pay would go up more than 50 percent -- to almost $70,000.

The proposal comes as the city has seen a steady slide in consolidated sales tax revenue -- the city's main funding source.

Sales tax revenue for the 2007 fiscal year was about $2 million less than expected.
