Death Penalty Phase Begins In Vegas Slaying, Dismemberment Case

A jury is hearing evidence today (Wednesday) on whether a 37-year-old Las Vegas man should be sentenced to death or life in prison.

Scott Dozier was found guilty yesterday (Tuesday) in the robbery, slaying and dismemberment of 22-year-old Jeremiah Miller, whose torso was found in a suitcase in a trash bin in April 2002.

Miller was from Phoenix, and authorities say he was involved in the methamphetamine trade.

Prosecutors alleged that Dozier killed Miller to steal $12,000 from him.

They want to present evidence to the jury that Dozier was found guilty in 2005 of second-degree murder a slaying where the victim was dismembered and buried in the desert in Arizona.
