WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says it's going forward with plans for the traditional Easter egg roll. But it's dashing the hopes of some Iowa children who hoped to visit the president's home.

Sixth-graders at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Waverly, Iowa, had their upcoming visit canceled as the White House suspended all tours under across-the-board government spending cuts. The disappointed class put a video on Facebook asking for the tour to be reinstated.

Presidential spokesman Jay Carney said Thursday the White House decided to cancel the tours so the Secret Service can fulfill its core mission.

But Carney says the White House is moving ahead with Easter egg roll on April 1, without ruling out the possibility it, too, could be canceled because of the budget battle
