WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's top aide says an immigration overhaul has to include a way for those who are living in the country illegally to earn citizenship.
White House chief of staff Denis McDonough said Sunday that "we should not have two classes of people in this country." McDonough says the White House is watching as the Republican-led House moves forward as it considers immigration reform.
McDonough says in Sunday interviews on NBC and CBS that the White House hopes to have an immigration bill this year.
House Republican Leader Eric Cantor tells CBS' "Face the Nation" that GOP lawmakers don't trust the president and that skepticism poisons hopes for reform.
