RENO, NV -- With the start of early voting only days away, election officials are preparing polling places. There are twenty-two early voting locations in Washoe County. Early voting begins Saturday and continues through November 2.
A South Rock Boulevard warehouse is stuffed with 'vote here' signs and more than a thousand voting machines. The machines will be delivered to polling places Thursday and Friday.
"A few pencils might be rolling around the floor (at the warehouse) but that's about it," Cate Salim, senior deputy with the Registrar of Voters office, said.
People voting early may vote at any of the polling locations regardless of what precinct they live in. Historically, early voting has been very popular -- half of ballots cast, or more, are usually cast early.
Luanne Cutler, administrative assistance with the Washoe County Registrar of Voters office, said there is potential for a big turnout. Voter registration for the November election ended Monday -- the totals show a record number of voters registered in Washoe County. There are now 10-thousand more registered voters in the county than during the last presidential election. Republicans outnumber Democrats in the county by a narrow margin -- a little more than 11-hundred voters.
