WASHINGTON (AP) - He's a long-time advocate of gun control -- and now, Vice President Joe Biden will lead a new effort by the Obama administration aimed at curbing gun violence.
President Barack Obama today will outline the initiative today, though he's not expected to call for specific measures.
The initiative underscores the political urgency the White House feels in the wake of last week's shooting in Connecticut.
Obama aides say Obama is likely to pursue some tightening of gun laws, including a ban on assault-style weapons. He is also likely to seek ways to improve mental health resources and school safety.
