CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The executive director of Nevada's beleaguered health insurance exchange is resigning.

Jon Hager announced his resignation Thursday effective March 14. He says he has been offered new opportunities he wants to pursue.

Hager has overseen Nevada's health insurance exchange since it was authorized by lawmakers in 2011.

But Nevada's online web portal created as part of the federal health care reform law has been beset with problems, including website errors and long wait times for telephone assistance.

Much of the blame has been put on Xerox, which was awarded a $75 million contract to design and operate the system.

Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a statement thanking Hager for his service. He said Hager worked tirelessly and the launch of Nevada Health Link was a significant and unprecedented undertaking.
