CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A state board is poised to consider a request from the Nevada Department of Taxation for money to implement medical marijuana dispensaries.

The department is seeking $529,000 from a contingency fund to cover the cost of collecting a tax on growers and dispensaries when they become legal next year.

The state Board of Examiners chaired by Gov. Brian Sandoval is scheduled to consider the funding request Tuesday before it's forwarded to the Legislature's Interim Finance Committee on Aug. 29.

Advocates of medicinal pot dispensaries say the system could raise $30 million a year once they are operational.

Nevada voters approved medical pot more than a decade ago, but the only legal way to get the drug has been for cardholders to grow it themselves.
