Lawmaker Facing Charges Appears at Legislature

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A Nevada lawmaker accused of threatening another legislator was ushered into a legislative police office Wednesday when he arrived at the state Legislature.

Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks of North Las Vegas was wearing a dark overcoat and hooded sweatshirt. He kept his head down, his face largely concealed, and walked with a cane. He was accompanied by some family members.

Legislative Director Rick Combs says Brooks asked for assistance to find an apartment and furniture in preparation of the upcoming session that begins Feb. 4. He says Brooks indicated he planned to be in attendance when the session begins.

His arrival came as members of legislative money committees were meeting upstairs to begin a review of the governor's budget proposal.

Brooks faces a court hearing on Monday in Las Vegas.
