RENO -- The Nevada National Guard is preparing for the possibility of a federal government shutdown. National Guard spokesman Dennis Fournier said roughly 150 technicians in Reno would likely be furloughed in the event of a government shutdown.

"Work is going to come to a grinding halt," he said.

Fournier said planes would be grounded and crews would be in "caretaker status."

He said roughly 530 Army and National Guard technicians would be furloughed statewide.

He said a plan may be implemented "for a responsible shutdown of the Nevada National Guard in accordance with office of personnel management guidance."

The people furloughed would likely be the same who took six unpaid days off during the summer because of sequestration, he said.

Fournier said the plan calls for the work of those furloughed to be done by active force. He said a decision whether to implement the plan will be made Monday if no stop-gap measure or budget is in place.
