SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A former state lawmaker and Congressional candidate from Utah is taking a job as the Nevada Republican Party's political director.

Carl Wimmer announced the move Monday. He says he'll keep his home in Herriman, Utah, and commute to Las Vegas each week.

Wimmer served three times in the Utah House of Representatives before resigning to run for Utah's Fourth Congressional District seat.

He lost the Republican nomination to opponent Mia Love at Utah's state GOP convention in April.

Wimmer has served on the South Jordan and West Valley City police forces. He is now a reserve police officer and small business owner.

Wimmer is married with three children and two foster children.
