SAN DIEGO (AP) - Bob Filner is no longer mayor of San Diego, stepping down after less than nine months in office amid allegations that he sexually harassed women.
Filner's resignation took effect at 5 p.m. PDT Friday. City Council President Todd Gloria, a fellow Democrat, is interim mayor.
The former 10-term congressman made no public appearances on his last day in office. Filner's last day came one week after the onetime civil rights leader gave a defiant farewell speech to the City Council in which he called himself the victim of a "lynch mob."
