ELKO, Nev. (AP) - A northeast Nevada man who was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving minutes after filing his candidacy for county sheriff has dropped out of the race.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports that Ronald William Rylander voluntarily withdrew his candidacy on Tuesday.

Rylander is 51. He wasn't available for comment. He remains in the Elko County jail following his March 13 arrest near the Elko County Courthouse on a third-offense DUI charge. Criminal charges had not yet been filed.

Police say a breath test found Rylander's blood-alcohol level was .091 percent. The legal limit for drivers in Nevada is .08 percent.

Rylander has had previous run-ins with authorities, including a misdemeanor disturbing the peace conviction after he was accused of making repeated non-emergency 911 calls.
