ELKO, Nev. (AP) - The chairman of the Elko City Planning Commission has been appointed the newest member of the Elko City Council.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports the council unanimously approved Reece Keener on Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of Rich Perry, who resigned in October.
Keener is an Elko business owner and has lived in the community for 18 years.
Councilman John Patrick Rice says every one of the Elko residents he spoke with backed Keener for the job.
Other candidates included former longtime Nevada state Assemblyman John Carpenter.
