RENO, Nev. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Labor is awarding $1.5 million to a Reno nonprofit that helps runaways and homeless youth get back on their feet.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced Tuesday that The Children's Cabinet received the grant through the agency's Face Forward Initiative. The program aims to reintegrate youth into their communities after they've spent time in the juvenile justice system.
Grant winners are supposed to provide services including job training and mentoring.
Reid pointed out that children who lack a strong support system often turn to drugs or gangs, and services provided by The Children's Cabinet can help fend off those threats.
The group's services include a shelter, food pantry and counseling.
