CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Non-U.S. citizens would be able to legally obtain driving privileges in Nevada under a bi-partisan bill introduced in the Nevada Senate.

SB303 sets out procedures and requirements for people who are not citizens to get a driving privilege card.

Under the measure, applicants would have to show a form of identification, such as a birth certificate from another country, a passport, and tax identification number.

They would also have to prove Nevada residency.

Backers say the privilege card would allow people to drive legally and get insurance, but couldn't be used for identification.

Cards would be renewable yearly.

Since the cards won't comply with federal Real ID requirements, they would not be sufficient to enter federal buildings or to board a commercial airline.
