Biden: Obama Leadership Saved Auto Plants

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden is drawing attention to the Obama administration's rescue of the auto industry, criticizing GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney for opposing a federal bailout of General Motors and Chrysler. He singles out Romney running mate Paul Ryan for suggesting that President Barack Obama failed to help an idled auto plant in Ryan's Wisconsin hometown.

Biden says that Ryan didn't mention that the plant in Janesville, Wis., closed before Obama took office.

Biden was speaking about two miles north of the sprawling GM plant in Lordstown, Ohio, in an event meant to emphasize the importance of the auto bailout to the state, a critical political battleground.

The Republican National Committee says in response to Biden's visit that Obama hasn't offered solutions to the challenges facing Ohio.
