CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The clock starts ticking on a 120-day session as the Nevada Legislature begins in Carson City.

The Assembly and Senate are set to convene at 11 a.m. Monday.

Opening day is typically reserved for accolades, speeches and introductions before lawmakers buckle down to tackle the state's business - a task that must be completed by midnight June 3.

But the 77th session will begin as no other in state history. Assemblyman Steve Brooks is expected to take a medical leave after being sworn in.

Brooks was arrested Jan. 19, accused of threatening incoming Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick. He was hospitalized last week for a mental evaluation.

Kirkpatrick says she met with Brooks on Sunday. She says he apologized and will take a leave to address medical issues.
