CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada Assembly leaders say they will appoint a select committee next week to investigate Assemblyman Steven Brooks to recommend if he should serve in his seat as the 2013 begins.
In a statement Friday, the Democratic caucus said the panel will have discretion to appoint and refer the matter to a special independent counsel. The committee will report and make recommendations to the full Assembly regarding what action, if any, should be taken.
Brooks, a North Las Vegas Democrat, was arrested Jan. 19 for allegedly threatening incoming Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.
He was hospitalized last Friday for a mental evaluation after an incident at his grandmother's house. He was released this week and says he plans to be in Carson City on Monday when the Legislature convenes.
