PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP) - Pahrump town board members say they were taken aback when a group of disgruntled residents tried to arrest them during a meeting.
Video captures Nye County Republican Central Committee Chairman Bill Carns telling the board Tuesday he was placing them under citizen's arrest. He said they were breaking the law by repealing a town ordinance meant to complicate the process of incorporation.
The attempt fizzled when Nye County deputies refused to handcuff the board members, and instead escorted them outside.
The dispute centers on the issue of incorporating the town of 38,000. Carns tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal many in Pahrump don't want another layer of government.
Town board member Vicky Parker says there's no attempt to pursue incorporation, and says the repeal was an attempt to simplify regulations.
