SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Developers in San Francisco want to turn a funeral home into a fun zone.

The City Planning Commission will weigh in Thursday on making a long-vacant mortuary in the Mission District into an indoor miniature golf course and restaurant.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Urban Putt would take a forbidding 1906 building with barred windows and an ornate facade and make it what a planning study calls the kind of upbeat, kid-friendly space that is rare in the city.

The study says it's an adaptive reuse of a sturdy building that's eligible for state historic status.

The site's in a heavily residential neighborhood and plans are to serve alcohol at the restaurant and keep it open until 2 a.m. on weekends, but planners have yet to get complaints.
