Golden eyes on MGM's Detroit billboard cause stir

DETROIT (AP) - A teaser for an MGM Grand Detroit casino ad
campaign that features a pair of golden eyes peering at motorists
from a billboard is causing a stir among some who see the image as
sinister.
The Detroit billboard depicts the eyes on a black background,
accompanied by a golden silhouette of MGM's signature lion.
City Councilwoman Alberta Tinsley-Talabi tells The Detroit News
for a Saturday story she wants it taken down.
The Rev. James A. Smith, pastor of Maranatha Gospel Church in
the Detroit suburb of Romulus, says it "looks like a demon glaring
at you."
Yvette Monet, a spokeswoman for casino parent MGM Mirage Inc.,
said the company wasn't aware of protests. She says Las Vegas-based
MGM is excited it's generating buzz, since that's the intended
effect.
