Newly Elected Point Arena Council Member Resigns

POINT ARENA, Calif. (AP) - After a close race for a seat on the Point Arena City Council, Jane Jarlsberg accepted with her apparent loss and settled into a new home.

Jarlsberg didn't find out until this week that she actually won.

Problem is, her new home is outside the city limits.

On Tuesday, Jarlsberg disqualified herself from the position because she no longer meets the residency requirement.

She won the seat by just one vote. Her opponent - Joseph Riboli, who had led in early November results - got 89 votes to her 90.

Riboli will take her place on the council, which manages a Mendocino County town of less than 500 residents.
