GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) - The more than 100 firefighters battling a wildfire in the Pine Mountain Range are making progress on a blaze that has produced heavy smoke visible in the Reno area.
Fire officials say they are at 5 percent containment on the fire that began Sunday afternoon. The fire that started Sunday afternoon and its cause was not immediately known.
Sierra Front fire officials say the Springs Fire is burning in rocky and steep terrain. Three helicopters were helping about 150 firefighters in trying to contain the 1.5-square-mile blaze.
No injuries have been reported and no structures are threatened.
The wildfire is the largest of more than a dozen reported Sunday amid a
high temperatures and thunderstorms.
