FERNLEY, NV - A Fernley High School sophomore is Nevada's state winner of the Doodle 4 Google competition, a chance for one student to win a $30,000 college scholarship. The school attended by the winner also gets a $50,000 Google for Education technology grant.

What's more, the winner will have his or her artwork displayed on the Google homepage.

Nevada's winning entry is from Mackenzie Schneider, who says, "Since endangered animals die from getting caught in fishing nets, my invention is based on a friendlier fishing net. Its purpose is to lower the risks of hunting marine animals on the endangered species list."

Mackenzie competed against students from across the state to represent Nevada in competing with 49 winners from across the country.

You can vote by clicking on the link until May 9. There will be an awards celebration for all 50 state winners May 21 in Mountain View, California, and the winning doodle will be on the Google homepage June 9.
