Quilts for Veterans

RENO, NV - The Veterans' 3-day weekend is approaching. One Reno woman is asking for 100 volunteers to be part of the “Valiant Warriors Quilting Project” over the weekend. You need no experience, but your help will make sure 50 quilts are made by this Monday for service men and women in hospitals around the world.

Cold Springs resident Cinda Heron has been quilting for the last 20 years.

In the past, the quilts have served as baby or bridal shower gifts.

But when her son serving in Afghanistan received a homemade quilt while in the hospital, that all changed.

“Clearly it's a homemade quilt and it has messages written on it specifically to the soldier wishing them luck, thanking them for their service. He had this quilt that came from people in the states who wanted him to know how much they cared about him,” says Heron.

When Cinda found out the quilt came from "Joshua's Hands" she had to find out more.

The group organizes "Valiant Warrior Quilting Projects" across the country; the finished quilts are sent to hospitalized service men and women around the world.

Cinda was asked to orchestrate a project this three-day weekend, where she and 100 other volunteers hope to make 50 quilts by Monday afternoon.

Cinda says you need no experience; you could iron, or you could be asked to write something on them; you can even have your kids decorate them.

All she needs is your interest and time to help send a small piece of home to someone who is serving far, far away.
