RENO, Nev. (AP) - A University of Nevada, Reno program that helps guide underrepresented students toward graduation is getting national recognition.
The College Life 101 program, which is run through UNR's Center for Student Cultural Diversity, is one of 15 programs nationwide that the U.S. Department of Education is honoring for success in closing the achievement gap.
UNR officials say the program helps bridge the gap between students with a good support system and students without one.
The program includes mid-term progress reports, academic and financial advising, and a service-learning component.
School records show that last year, 85 percent of the 370 students in the program stayed in school or graduated.
