RENO, Nev. (AP) - Thousands of the needy turned out for annual free Thanksgiving Day feasts provided by two northern Nevada casinos.

The 52nd annual Thanksgiving meal offered by John Ascuaga's hotel-casino in Sparks drew some 1,300 people in Reno, while the 59th annual Thanksgiving dinner provided by the Carson Nugget in Carson City attracted about 1,200 people.

The Nugget has offered free Thanksgiving and Christmas meals at St. Vincent's Dining Room of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada since 1961, and Thursday's dinner was the last it will host under ownership of the Ascuaga family.

The new owners of the Nugget, Global Gaming Hospitality LLC of Las Vegas, plan to continue the tradition.

Gov. Brian Sandoval, his wife, Kathleen, and their three children were among volunteers at the Reno dinner, while Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell and Supervisor Jim Shirk were among volunteers at the Carson City meal.
