ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Authorities have identified a teenager found dead on an Elko hillside as a drug treatment patient who left nearby Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital.
Elko County sheriff's Lt. Marvin Morton tells the Elko Daily Free Press that 18-year-old Aren Pederson left the hospital several days before his body was found by a hiker on a hillside on Saturday. There were no signs of foul play.
Morton says Pederson had been taken to the hospital from a home in Oasis after a report that he had ingested methadone. Pederson wasn't wearing shoes, socks or a shirt when he left the hospital.
Searchers using a police dog failed to find him, and no media report was made when he disappeared.
The Washoe County medical examiner in Reno has not ruled on a cause of death.
