ELKO, Nev. (AP) - A teen who has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 2011 killing of a West Wendover High School classmate says there was no reason or justification for the crime.

A judge on Friday ordered the teen to spend life in prison without the possibility of parole for the death of 16-year-old Micaela "Mickey" Costanzo.

Kody Cree Patten said he wished he could ask for forgiveness, but he doesn't feel he deserves it.

KSL reports the judge in Elko told Patten, "Your blood runs cold."

Patten and his girlfriend at the time Toni Fratto were accused in the death of Costanzo, who was taken to a remote area near the Utah-Nevada border. Authorities said she was struck in the head with a shovel and her throat was slit.

Fratto pleaded guilty in the killing and was sentenced in April to up to life in prison.
