LAS VEGAS (AP) - Tea party activists are asking Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval to name one of their own to the U.S. Senate seat that will become vacant when Republican John Ensign resigns.

Tea Party Nation supporters say former Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian is the ideal candidate.

Tarkanian lost the GOP Senate primary to Sharron Angle last year. She went on to lose against Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the 2010 Nevada Senate race.

Tarkanian said Wednesday that he would love to join the Senate and appreciates the tea party campaign.

But he expects Sandoval will appoint Nevada Congressman Dean
Heller to Ensign's post.

Heller is running in the 2012 race for the seat and had been endorsed by Sandoval.

Sandoval has said he'll make a decision by Tuesday.
