Tax Panels Take Up Live Entertainment Levies

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Legislative taxation committees continue their scrutiny of Nevada's tax structure.

The Assembly and Senate taxation panels on Thursday will take up the state's live entertainment tax. It's a levy some lawmakers say has too many loopholes.

State revenue forecasters project the live entertainment tax will generate about $282 million over the upcoming biennium.

Democrats in the Nevada Legislature have pledged an in-depth review of the state's tax structure as a first step toward overhauling a system heavily reliant on discretionary spending by tourists and gamblers.
