TRUCKEE, CA - A driver is dead and two construction workers are hurt after a crash near Truckee Monday afternoon.
The CHP says officers started chasing the driver of a BMW going more than 100MPH east from Dutch Flat to Donner Pass Road on Interstate 80. The driver then got off the interstate and headed west toward Soda Springs.
The CHP says the driver tried to avoid a construction zone, lost control and overturned several times. He hit two California Conservation Corps workers as they tried to get out of the way.
One of them was flown to Renown in Reno with a head injury; the other has a shoulder injury. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Initially thought to be from Reno, he has been identified as 55-year-old William Orr from Penn Valley, California.
