Sparks Man In Custody On Battery, Child Endangerment Charges

Sparks police received a call just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning that a women was screaming for help in the 300 block of Harbor Cove.

SPARKS, NV - Sparks police received a call just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning that a women was screaming for help in the 300 block of Harbor Cove.

When authorities arrived on the scene they found the victim and were told that the suspect, 32-year-old Joel Hernandez-Santos had strangled the victim and tackled her.

The couple's 11-year-old son ran for help and was apprehended by Hernandez-Santos. According to authorities, a witness saw a man leave the area with the woman's child.

For nearly an hour Hernandez-Santos was on foot in the area with the son in an attempt to hide from law enforcement.

Just before 5:30 a.m. Hernandez-Santos and the son were found on Nichols Blvd. When Hernandez-Santos saw the police he let go of the boy and was apprehended a short distance away.

During the investigation, Hernandez-Santos was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm. Hernandez-Santos is prohibited from carrying firearms.

Hernandez-Santos, a 32 year old Sparks resident was booked into the Washoe County Jail, on Domestic Strangulation, Child Abuse, Child Endangerment, False Imprisonment to Avoid Arrest, Ex-Felon Possession of Firearm, Possession of Stolen Property, and Domestic Battery. His total bail was just over $100,000.
