RENO -- The American Red Cross and Washoe County School District entered into an agreement for schools to become shelters during emergencies Tuesday.
While schools have been used as Red Cross shelters in the past, regional CEO of the American Red Cross Clara Andriola, said the agreement would make setting up the shelters faster.
"You can imagine opening up a shelter... a facility and all the components that are a part of that, so this actually allows us to work through those details in a very short period of time," she said.
Superintendent of Washoe County Schools Pedro Martinez said many people know where the schools are located, and there are 93 located throughout the county.
