"The estimated value of the donation (land and fire station improvements) ranges from $4.4
million to $7.4 million. The Agreement limits the City’s matching fund contribution to $3.1
million. Because of the uncertain timing of the sale of the South Meadows fire station site and
collection of fees assessed against new development in the Bella Vista project, the City will need
to finance up to $ 907,891 over a term of up to 10 years."  -- City of Reno Staff Report

RENO, NV -- Residents living in the South Meadows will once again see firefighters in a permanent fire house.

The Reno City Council moved forward Wednesday with approving and finding funding for a permanent Reno Fire Department Station 12.

Reno's fire presence was moved with the deconsolidation of fire protection between the city and Washoe County. When the so-called "fire divorce" occurred last June, Reno fire crews had to move out of the facility located across the street from the Damonte Ranch Walmart. A temporary fire house was set up in warehouse space on Trademark Drive.

In Wednesday's city council meeting land for a new location was donated by Nevada Tri Partners, LLC at the southwest corner of the intersection of Steamboat and Veterans Parkways. Kitty-corner to RC Willey. The value of that land, with future improvements, is estimated at $4.4 to $7.4 million. Funds were also provided by two different developments in the area which were required to provide funds in order to construct the neighborhoods. The City of Reno will be responsible with the difference. With the funding from the developments and donations, it's expected taxpayers will pay less than one million dollars over ten years.

It's expected the permanent Reno Fire Station 12 will be complete within 12 months.
