Name Released of California Man Who Drowned at Sand Harbor

The Washoe County Coroner has identified a man who drowned Monday afternoon while swimming with his children.

SAND HARBOR, NV - A southern California man is dead after drowning Monday afternoon in Lake Tahoe. The accident happened around 4:45 Monday at the Diver's Cove section of Sand Harbor.

Victor Duarte, 42-years-old, was reportedly swimming about 50 yards off shore when he started to struggle. He screamed for help then slipped under the water's surface.

A bystander in a raft came to the victim's rescue and pulled him to shore, rescue crews were on scene and started to give the man CPR. Effort failed to save the man and he was pronounced dead on scene.

Officials say he was swimming with his children at the time of the incident.
