RENO, NV - A Reno woman has surrendered to Reno police, saying she is the driver who hit and killed a pedestrian late Monday night.

Police believe 35-year-old Juliana Howell was traveling northbound on Kietzke Lane about 10PM when she hit 50-year-old Johnny Powell of Schurz, who was lying in the roadway at the time. Police say she stopped briefly after striking the victim, but drove off before police got there. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear why the victim was lying in the roadway.

Police say Howell decided to turn herself in after seeing the story reported in local media. The case is still under investigation; for the time being, she is charged with a probation violation.

Anyone with information in regards to this case is urged to contact the Reno Police Department Traffic Division at 334-2141 or Secret Witness at 334-4900.
