RENO, NV - Fire crews are close to putting out a fire on the base of Peavine Mountain near Stead and 395. It's 90% contained, with full containment expected Saturday. The cause hasn't been determined.
The fire burned 193 acres of brush.
Firefighters say the terrain and overnight wind shifts Thursday night made it difficult to fight the fire.
The fire burned about a quarter of a mile from the nearest Stead-area homes.
Residents of Foothill Mobile Homes were evacuated to North Valleys High for a short time. They were allowed to go home early Friday morning.
The fire did come close to the Sierra Safari Zoo, but it was not evacuated. A plan was in place with Animal Control in case an evacuation was needed.
Structure protection units were sent home around 3:00 AM Friday.
This fire is close to another fire from Thursday, caused by a truck rollover. But we don't know yet whether there's any connection between the fires.
