No West Nile Virus in Nevada So Far

RENO, NV - While other areas of the country are seeing West Nile Virus on the rise, the virus has not been found so far this season in Nevada.

"We typically don't see it until about now," Bob Sack, the director of environmental health for the Washoe County District Health Department, said.

Sack said that's because it is only now overnight temperatures are warm enough to help the mosquito population grow.

He said the public should continue to take steps to avoid the insects -- that includes wearing repellant, and removing free-standing water near homes.

The virus was recently found in California near Lake Tahoe's south shore.
