RENO, Nev. -- The Midtown district is thriving and it's adding one more store to its family. It's called Sippee's, clothing store for children and it's run by the same owner as Junkee's across the street.
It's the first kid-friendly store in Midtown and it's hoping to bring more families to the district. Sippee's is geared towards infants and children up to age eight. The best part--parents won't have to worry about burning a hole in their wallets when they shop there.
The store is outside of the box, especially for what Midtown used to be.
"Growing up, Virginia was kind of a street you just didn't drive down, but now it's a great community," said one long-time Reno resident.
It has the same funky flare as Junkee's, but with a few more toys, tutus and children.
Sippee's is the second store for Junkee's owner, Jessica Schneider, and she says it operates under the same concept--they'll buy your used children's clothes and then sell them for almost half the price.
"When you have a local economy, kids are a part of that economy,"she said. "You can't get the stuff that we have from anywhere else and it's affordable, it's just not the box feeling.
"People can come in and decide what they like and there's such diversity here, you're going to find anything you want," Neoma Jardin, City Council member said.
It's not just for City Council members and parents; the kids like it so much, they don't want to leave.
"[My son] already says he wants to live here," Jardin said.
With a stamp of approval from Mom and her kids, it won't be too difficult for Sippee's to fit into the family.
"Midtown is developing into this family friendly environment. It's not just a seedy part of town anymore," Schneider said. "There's a lot of art and culture and I think that Reno was starving for something for the locals to do."
Sippee's will have a grand opening Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
Sippee's is at 955 S. Virginia St.
