Nevada High Court: Redistricting to Move Ahead

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Nevada Supreme Court has ruled that an effort to create new voter districts should move forward despite requests by Nevada's top election official to halt the process.

The state high court said Friday that avoiding further disruption of Nevada's voting process is more important than concerns raised by Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller and others about a panel formed to create the maps.

The boundaries are being redrawn after a decade of rapid population growth in Nevada.

The new districts will be used to decide congressional and state races for 10 years.

Miller challenged a Carson City judge's ruling that created the redistricting panel.

Nevada's Constitution calls for the Legislature to create voting districts.

But state lawmakers gave up up after Gov. Brian Sandoval vetoed two plans.
