Nevada Sales Up 6.1 Percent in October

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Taxable sales in Nevada climbed 6.1 percent in October over the same month last year, with most major sectors reporting gains.

A report released Tuesday by the Department of Taxation shows Nevada merchants sold $3.8 billion in goods in October on which the state collected gross sales and use tax revenues of $297.8 million. The tax revenues are up 3.5 percent compared with October 2012.

In Clark County sales were up 8.3 percent while sales in Washoe County jumped 9.2 percent.

Statewide, sales of vehicles and parts rose 7 percent. Sales of homes furnishings were up 8.6 percent, while general merchandise stores reported a nearly 3 percent gain.

Accommodations, a key indicator on the vitality of Nevada's tourism market, were up 25 percent.
