CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A Nevada advocacy group is organizing a
massive campout at the Legislature to push lawmakers to raise taxes.
Progress Now Nevada is planning to camp on the Carson City campus from Monday to Wednesday next week to bring attention to Gov. Brian Sandoval's proposed cuts to schools and other services.
The group says it has exhausted its public speaking and lobbying efforts and now wants to speak further with legislators.
Camping plans come as several bills to implement Democrats' $1.2
billion revenue proposal are up for consideration in committees. The plan includes new taxes on services and business revenue, and would extend taxes set to expire at the end of June.
Sandoval has vowed not to raise taxes or fees so the state's economy has time to recover.
