CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Highway Patrol has honored its employees who responded to a shooting at an IHOP restaurant in Carson City that left five people dead, including the gunman who killed himself.
Eight NHP employees received commendation medals Friday afternoon for their performance during the Sept. 6 shooting.
They are Lt. Kevin Bailey, Sgt. Todd Hartline and troopers Sean Giurlani, Scott Morron and Chris Austin. Dispatchers Jennifer Schmidt, Serenity Simpson and Sara Macias also received medals
during the ceremony.
NHP officials say the dispatchers displayed a sense of calm and remained professional as horrified witnesses called to report the breakfast-time killings.
The other staffers went to the restaurant to help the Carson City Sheriff's Office and to tend to the wounded victims.
